CROSS-RESIDENCY PROJECT ITALY / QUEBEC
Agora de la danse, Le Teatro Pubblico Campano and TAN Teatri Associati di Napoli are proud to collaborate in this first cross-residency project between Italy and Quebec, initiated by CINARS and the NID (New Italian Dance Platform).
Creation, discovery, sharing and cultural exchange between dance professionals are at the heart of this bilateral residency projectbetween Quebec and Italy for the next 3 years.
For the second year of this exchange, Agora de la danse hosts the Italian choreographer Luna Cenere, From April 24 to May 10, 2023, where she pursues the research and creation of Vanishing Place in Espace blanc.
In this new project, Vanishing Place, Luna’s intention is to dig deeper in the practice of hiding and reveal, experimenting the use of objects such panels and start a chromatic research. Manipulating this setting, the performers will also move/manipolate the space. Working mainly with nudity and experimenting new postures/architectures of the body, Luna’ works departs from a very clear statement. The nudity is assumed as a natural condition of the bodies and is a compositional necessity, legitimized by the specific choreographic-writing practice that the author conducts. Luna emphasizes the single parts of the bodies, elaborates the architectures putting them in dialogue with the surrounding space, turns the postures upside down and orchestrates the spatial disposition. The idea is always to start from a movement practice that creates space and emptiness in the performer and explore the quality of the ‘adagio’ to let the performer disappear and the gestures of the body, the space and the architectural elements of the music emerge. On the stage landscapes of bodies are generated but it is also the sigle body to be a landscape itself. There is a constant metamorphosis happening that puts the viewer into an active position of observation and interpretation of what he/she is witnessing as Luna works on multiple levels of interpretation and meanings, giving very much importance to the concept of ‘collective memory’.
“Luna Cenere continues her research on the body, posture, object and gesture, often in startling dialogue with one another. Vanishing Place, her new ‘installation’ dance work, pushes this conversation into fresh and surprising territory, probing the very nature of what it is to dance and indeed what dances of the future might become. It is minimal, questioning work and as such offers a potent contrast to the more kinetically driven experiences we offer in the Biennale Danza”. Wayne Mc Gregor
