Prometheus project, second movement: ἸΏ
15 > 24 March 2023
Ridotto del Mercadante – Teatro di Napoli
Iṑ (ancient Greek Ἰώ) is a character in Greek mythology: priestess of Argivian Hera, often depicted as a young woman with the horns of a cow on her head. Featured in Aeschylus’ Tragedy “Prometheus Chained,” Iṑ is loved by Zeus and therefore hated by Hera.
I imagined a play centered on the confrontation|clash between Prometheus and Iṑ. If Prometheus is elected as a metaphor of thought, an archetype of a knowledge loosened from the constraints of myth, falsification, and ideology, which has represented in the history of Western culture the symbol of rebellion and defiance to authorities and impositions, Iṑ is the victim of an authoritarian and violent patriarchal society, Iṑ is the one who can only escape from the harsh reality of life. Iṑ is the archetype of humanity that cannot find peace. Iṑ is Us.
